OLYMPIA – After a two-day deluge, WSDOT crews are on watch and cleanup duty to make sure major routes are open for Monday’s commute.
Crews spent Friday, Saturday and today working to keep roadways and drains clear, especially in problem areas from King County north to the Canadian border and Pierce County west to the Olympic Peninsula.
Tonight, crews are working to open the last remaining roadways and expect cleanup to last into Tuesday. WSDOT crews keep focus tonight on bridges along SR 530 that cross the Stillaguamish River, SR 536 near Mt. Vernon and the US 2 trestle in Snohomish County.
Drivers can track WSDOT’s weather-related closures on the “What’s Happening Now in the Puget Sound” webpage www.wsdot.wa.gov/construction/2010/today.htm.
Up in the mountains, WSDOT crews did avalanche control work overnight Saturday on US 2 Stevens Pass and I-90 Snoqualmie pass. There are no plans for additional avalanche control work tonight.
All Amtrak Cascades train service is suspended between Portland and Vancouver, B.C. with alternate transportation, due to mudslides. Amtrak Cascades customers should check the website at www.amtrack.com or call 1-800-872-7245 for more information.
Northline Sounder service between Everett and Seattle will also not be available on Monday. Riders and find more information at www.soundtransit.org.
As of 4 p.m. today, weather-related closures include:
- SR 530 near Arlington.
- The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Southcenter.
- The northbound I-405 off-ramp to 120th Avenue NE at the NE 124th Street off-ramp.
- SR 11/Chuckanut Drive closed in both directions at Legg Road.
- SR 20 is closed at the Newhalem gate until further notice.
- SR 3 near Loxie Eagans is closed in Kitsap County.
- The ramp from SR 302 to westbound SR 16 in Pierce County is closed due to water over the roadway.
- SR 106 is closed through Mason County due to fallen trees, several slides and water over the roadway. WSDOT is allowing some local traffic.
- SR 302 near Allyn closed due to several slides along the route.
- SR 110 near La Push Road because of water over the roadway.
- SR 112 has been closed in both directions at SR 113 due to water over the roadway. Motorist can use SR 113 or US 101.
