OLYMPIA – Have an opinion about how the region’s four counties should work together to provide better transit service? The Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization (PRTPO) and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) want your input.

The PRTPO has completed the regional Public Transit Coordination Plan, and it is now available for the public to review and comment on WSDOT’s website. The PRTPO hopes people in Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap and Mason counties take advantage of the opportunity, because the WSDOT uses the plan, as federal laws requires, to access and distribute grant funding to assist and improve public transit.

Highlights of the plan:

• Special transportation needs of persons with disabilities, older adults, people with limited incomes, and youth
• Current public transportation services and transportation needs in Clallam, Jefferson, Mason and Kitsap counties
• Coordination efforts of local transportation providers and emergency management agencies
• A description of the process used to identify unmet transportation needs
• How transportation projects are prioritized

The plan is available online at www.wsdot.wa.gov/partners/prtpo. Comments must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 and should be e-mailed to Connie Soper of Nelson/Nygaard at csoper@neslonnygaard.com or faxed at 503-228-2320. When submitting comments, please indicate the plan’s page number being referenced.

The Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization PRTPO is an association of cities, towns, counties, ports, tribes, transit agencies and major employers that serves as a forum for developing regional transportation policies and making decisions, as well as economic and growth management issues in Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap and Mason counties.
