On Monday, May 17th work will get underway on a paving project on Division Street in north Spokane. The job consists of resurfacing work on most of a 19-mile section of US 395 from the Spokane City Limits at the “Y” to the Stevens County line north of Deer Park.

Inland Asphalt Company of Spokane is the prime contractor on the job with a construction bid of $4,076,235. The work should take about three months to complete.

This paving project is a part of the Department’s pavement preservation program. The current road surface is deteriorating as a result of routine wear and tear. The existing surface will be ground out and replaced with a new layer of Hot Mix Asphalt. In addition, there will be some guardrail, sidewalk, and signage upgrades. The five mile, concrete surfaced, divided highway segment from the Little Spokane River to the vicinity of Fender Road is not part of the job.

Sidewalk work on Division Street north of Country Homes Blvd. in the Spokane metro area is one of the first items of work and will begin on Monday.

All work requiring lane restrictions, including all pavement grinding and paving, will be done between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to reduce the traffic impacts.

Pavement grinding operations in rural areas should get underway later in May. After the grinding, drivers should be alert for grooved pavement. During rural grinding and paving operations, motorists should expect single lane traffic directed by flaggers and pilot cars with possible delays up to 20 minutes at times.

The project should be fully completed by mid to late August. As always, paving work is dependent on the weather. Wet, cool conditions may cause delays to the paving operations on this project.
