ARLINGTON – WSDOT Aviation released a draft copy of its updated Airport and Compatible Land Use Program guidebook May 6 at the annual Washington Airport Managers Association meeting in Wenatchee.
WSDOT updated the draft guidebook to make land-use planning guidelines easier for airport sponsors and managers to understand. The new guidebook relies strongly on graphics and visuals to communicate concepts and practices in a universal, reader-friendly way.
The updated guidebook does not change land-use requirements for towns, cities and counties.
Airport sponsors, elected officials, local planners and other airport groups are invited to review and comment on the new guidebook. Stakeholders are also encouraged to recommend real or hypothetical land-use challenges for the guidebook’s scenarios section. WSDOT staff will select several scenarios and write appropriate responses to the challenges presented. The scenarios will assist jurisdictions in making informed land-use decisions. WSDOT hopes to publish the final version of the guidebook in July 2010.
