Expect lane closures as WSDOT begins Recovery Act paving project May 3

KELSO – Orange barrels will remain a familiar sight on I-5 this summer as WSDOT continues delivering safety and mobility improvement projects on the interstate corridor. On May 3 WSDOT’s contractor, Lakeside Industries, Inc. of Longview, kicks off construction on the $6.3 million Recovery Act funded I-5, Todd Road to Kelso Weigh Station paving project.

Drivers can expect to see single lane and shoulder closures on both directions of I-5 next week as crews install construction signs and guardrail between Todd Road and the Kelso Weigh Station (mileposts 26.5 to 43.8).

As the season moves forward and warmer weather arrives, crews will begin paving work. Drivers will encounter daytime single-lane closures, night time double-lane closures, and intermittent ramp closures while crews resurface and restripe approximately 17 miles of I-5.

Weather-dependent paving work is anticipated to begin in late June or early July. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by September 2010.

This project is funded through federal, state and local funding sources and received $2.34 million in Recovery Act funds. This is the fourth and final Recovery Act paving project on I-5 in southwest Washington. Paving I-5 preserves the road’s surface, reduces maintenance costs and improves safety and mobility for all drivers on the corridor.
