GRAHAM – Just in time for the holidays, WSDOT flipped the switch today on a new signal that promises to improve safety at the intersection of State Route 7/Mountain Highway and 304th Street East/ Kapowsin Highway in East Pierce County.

The nearly 10,000 motorists who take this route daily may need to make adjustments as they come up to the new signal.

“SR 7 drivers should be prepared to slow down and stop as they approach 304th Street/Kapowsin Highway,” said WSDOT Region Administrator, Kevin Dayton. “It’s a change for drivers, but the added signal, left turn lane and crosswalks make the intersection safer for everyone.”

This intersection has a history of collisions. Since 1999, 32 collisions have taken place at this location resulting in 59 injuries and two deaths.

WSDOT awarded Travers Sound & Telecommunications the contract for $237,000 in April 2009.

Friday, Dec. 4, members of the 2nd Legislative District; WSDOT Olympic Region Administrator, Kevin Dayton; former Senator Marilyn Rasmussen along with a representative from the Washington State Patrol will be on location to mark the completion of this important safety project.
