WENATCHEE – Five miles of Interstate 90 through Moses Lake will be paved between August and October under a $3,242,563.03 contract awarded to Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. of Moses Lake. The contract amount is approximately 12 percent below the engineering estimate.
The Recovery Act-project will pave four driving lanes, and upgrade guardrail and concrete median barrier. Shoulder rumble strips, recessed pavement markers and guideposts will be installed along with new striping.
This section of I-90 was last paved in 1997. It was scheduled for rehabilitation three years ago, but funding was unavailable. The project received federal Recovery Act funds thanks to lower than expected bids received for the first round of state Recovery Act projects. The project is expected to support or sustain as many as 50 local construction related jobs.

Washington State is administering the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act investments with an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability. Gov. Gregoire created a Web site, www.recovery.wa.gov/, so every Washingtonian can see where tax dollars are going and hold government accountable for the results. On the federal level, President Obama has appointed Vice President Biden to oversee all states’ recovery efforts and to root out waste and fraud. This combined oversight will ensure taxpayer dollars are put to good use and recharge the economy.
