SEATTLE – Baseball and soccer fans, and marathon runners and their supporters should plan for traffic delays and allow more time to find parking in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood through Sunday afternoon.

In the next four days the neighborhood will host four events next to major construction to revamp the State Route 519 corridor between I-5, I-90 and the Seattle waterfront. The events include:

  • A Seattle Mariners game Thursday afternoon, June 25.
  • The Rock n' Roll Seattle Marathon Health & Fitness Expo Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26.
  • The Rock n’ Roll Seattle Marathon Saturday, June 27, with 25,000 runners finishing at Qwest Field.
  • A Sounders FC game Sunday afternoon, June 28.

People heading to these events can expect:

  • Royal Brougham Way reduced to one lane in each direction between Occidental Avenue S. and Fourth Avenue S. for construction of a new bridge over the railroad tracks.
  • The full closure of Third Avenue S. between Royal Brougham Way and Edgar Martinez Drive S.
  • Reduced street parking near Safeco Field due to the closure of Third Avenue S.
Street, highway and ramp closures Saturday morning and afternoon for the marathon. Visit www.rnrseattle.com/course/Road_Closures.html for a full closure list.
  • Reduced private parking because of WSDOT demolition work on the west side of First Avenue S. between S. Atlantic and S. Dearborn streets.

WSDOT advises event goers to:

  • Allow extra time.
  • Carpool or use transit.

In the $84.35 million SR 519 Intermodal Access Project crews are building a new I-90/I-5 off-ramp to S. Edgar Martinez Drive/S. Atlantic Street and a bridge over the railroad tracks on S. Royal Brougham Way. The project also includes the recently completed widening of the First Avenue S. and S. Atlantic Street/Edgar Martinez Drive S.

These improvements will create a safer SR 519 for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists, and move freight, daily commuters, sports fans and ferry travelers faster through the corridor.
