SPOKANE-The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is in the design and construction phase of the US 395/North Spokane Corridor. Construction is underway on two jobs in a series of eight contracts on this facility as a result of the transportation funding package passed by the Legislature in 2003. In addition, another construction project, the US 2 to Wandermere vicinity project is being advertised for construction bids and will start before the end of 2009.

Two informational Open House meetings are scheduled to update the community regarding the North Spokane Corridor, especially the current and upcoming construction projects. There will also be information on future work, the corridor design, and future plans. Department staff will be on hand to answer questions about the overall status of the project and construction details. Real Estate Services representatives will also be available. There will be no formal presentation at the Open House. Interested citizens are invited to drop by at any time during the meeting.

The open house meeting dates and locations are Thursday, June 25th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Northwood Middle School, 13120 N. Pittsburg, in Spokane. The second meeting is Wednesday, July 15th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rogers High School in the cafeteria. The school is located at 1622 E. Wellesley in Spokane.

“We want to keep the community informed on the progress of our construction work, especially when it comes to some of the traffic impacts they may encounter in their travels,” said Keith Metcalf, WSDOT Eastern Region Administrator. “We also want to take this opportunity to let them know about our future plans and when they can expect to drive on the first segment.”

The eight construction contracts that are currently funded will create a drivable link from the vicinity of Freya Street and Francis Avenue to the existing US 395 near the Wandermere Golf Course. The first piece, from Francis to Farwell Rd. will open in August, 2009, with the second segment from Farwell Rd. to US 395 planned opening in 2011.

When fully constructed, the North Spokane Corridor will be a 60-mile per hour, limited access highway with a direct connection to I-90 just west of the existing Thor/Freya Interchange.
