Draft environmental impact statement and draft section 4(f) evaluation released for public comment
VANCOUVER - The Washington State Department of Transportation will host an open house and public hearing to discuss the SR 502 – Widening from I-5 to Battle Ground project and the project’s draft environmental impact statement and draft section 4(f) evaluation (DEIS).
The meetings will take place Tuesday, June 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. Local residents, business owners, and property owners are encouraged to attend the event at the WSDOT Southwest Region Office, 11018 NE 51st Circle, Vancouver.
The SR 502 Widening project proposes to add lanes and make other improvements, including the addition of left and right turn lanes, median barrier or curb, and traffic signals, to the existing SR 502 corridor. The purpose of the project is to enhance safety and improve mobility between NE 15th Avenue and NE 102nd Avenue, as well as to improve regional connectivity between Battle Ground, north Clark County, and I-5.
The project is scheduled for construction in 2012, and the right-of-way acquisition process began this year.
The open house and public hearing coincide with release of the project DEIS. A 45-day comment period begins June 5 and extends through July 20. The open house will provide an opportunity for WSDOT to answer questions about the project and DEIS in a setting similar to previous project open houses.
Comments provided during the public hearing will be tracked, published, and addressed by the project team in the final version of the EIS.
Court reporters will be available to take oral testimony on the project. Written testimony may also be provided on comment forms at the event or submitted via e-mail to swgorge@wsdot.wa.gov or dean.moberg@dot.gov. Comments will continue to be accepted throughout the 45-day commend period.
