BLAINE – WSDOT plans to build two roundabouts and modify I-5 at the D Street interchange in Blaine in 2010. Information about these safety improvements will be on display twice in April for those who want to learn more about the project and how it will affect property access near the interchange.
This project is expected to begin after the winter Olympics in 2010.
WSDOT will host an open house and access hearing to show drivers and residents how the project design will change the interstate and affect surrounding properties. Roundabouts will help improve safety for the 6,000 drivers who use this interchange on a daily basis.
The first open house will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the Blaine Senior Center, 763 G Street, Blaine. Those who attend the open house can view designs of the project and talk directly to project staff, ask questions and voice concerns in an informal setting.
The second open house will be at 6 p.m., followed by a formal access hearing at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 29, at the Blaine Senior Center, 763 G Street, Blaine.
The access hearing is a formal meeting where witnesses can give testimony to a court reporter concerning the proposed access changes. It will start at 7 p.m. and will last approximately two hours. It is intended for property owners whose property access will be affected by the safety project.
For those unable to attend the open house or hearing, more information about the project is available on the WSDOT Web site - www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/BlaineInterchange/ - or by contacting: Chris Damitio at 360-788-7400 or damitic@wsdot.wa.gov; and Dustin Terpening at 360-757-5997 or terpenid@wsdot.wa.gov. An online comment form is also available on the project Web site.
