SEATTLE – A forecast of heavy weekend rain has forced contractor crews working on SR 520 in Bellevue to cancel weekend work. Work will continue as planned overnight on I-5 in north Seattle. SR 16 work in Tacoma will go on as scheduled as well.
Weekend construction closures
I-5 in north Seattle
Crews will close up to three of four lanes at night on southbound I-5 between NE 130th St. and Ravenna Blvd. on Friday and Sunday nights to grind the bumps from the pavement. Work planned for Saturday night has been cancelled. Lanes will close as early as 8 p.m. on Friday and reopen as late as 10 a.m. on Saturday. Lanes will close as early as 8 p.m. on Sunday and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday morning. Drivers will notice a smoother ride with enhanced traction by Monday morning.
SR 99, Aurora Avenue Bridge
Crews will close two lanes of southbound SR 99 at the north end of the Aurora Avenue Bridge between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday to set up and assess a 10 foot-wide wooden test section of the proposed Aurora Bridge fence. SR 16 / I-5 Tacoma
A signed detour takes traffic off eastbound State Route 16 overnight Saturday while crews install three street lights along the highway. Between midnight Saturday, March 28 and 8 a.m. Sunday, March 29, eastbound traffic destined for Interstate 5 will exit at Union Avenue, then travel east on 38th Street to reach I-5. A single westbound SR 16 lane and the Union Avenue and Center Street on-ramps to eastbound SR 16 will be closed during the eight-hour work period.
