COLFAX-A project to repair the deck on a bridge near the Adams/Whitman County line will get underway on Monday, March 23, depending on weather.

The work involves resurfacing the Palouse River Bridge on SR 26 between Washtucna and Colfax.

“The existing bridge surface or “deck” has deteriorated over the years and repairs are needed to protect the underlying roadway support structure from corrosion,” said Regional Administrator, Keith Metcalf. “It is very important to make these repairs to avoid more expensive repairs and to protect the public’s investment in this structure.”

After repairs in the deck are made, a layer of concrete repair material, about 1 ½ inches thick will be poured over the existing driving surface. The work will take about six weeks to complete.

Traffic on SR 26 will be affected by a lower speed limit and vehicle width restriction during the six-week project. The legal speed limit will be lowered to 25 miles per hour and widths will be restricted to 14 feet or less. Single-lane, one way traffic will be controlled by a temporary signal, 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Penhall Company dba Concrete Barrier, Inc. of Mukilteo, WA is the prime contractor on this $445,345 project and the job will employ about a half dozen people.
