SEATTLE – WSDOT contractor crews reopened all lanes of northbound Interstate 5 through south Seattle at 2:10 a.m. Monday after successfully replacing 49 broken concrete panels this weekend. Crews removed the panels and repoured replacement panels. A process that will be repeated, along with grinding uneven pavement, throughout this project to replace the worst sections of roadway on both directions of I-5 from south Seattle to Shoreline.

Traffic

Overall, traffic flowed smoothly through the work zone all weekend. On average, it took drivers between 14 and 21 minutes to get through the work zone.

What's next?

I-5 grinding work will resume tonight. Crews will reduce traffic to as few as two open lanes on northbound I-5 from S. Michigan Street to S. Spokane Street nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday - Friday morning. Crews will also reduce traffic to as few as two open lanes on southbound I-5 from Stewart Street to just north of James Street in downtown Seattle nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday - Wednesday morning.
