SEATTLE – WSDOT contractor crews reopened all lanes of southbound I-5 through downtown Seattle ahead of schedule at 1 a.m. Monday after successfully replacing 41 broken concrete panels this weekend.

Traffic
Overall, traffic flowed smoothly through the work zone all weekend. The worst backups occurred Saturday, when police activity near Olive Way slowed traffic throughout the afternoon. On average, it took drivers between 30 and 60 minutes to get through the work zone.

Progress on the job
Last night crews resumed grinding work on northbound I-5, reducing traffic to one lane between South Boeing Access Road and Corson Avenue. Overnight closures on northbound I-5 between Albro and just south of Pacific will continue throughout the week.

Next weekend, crews will replace 36 broken concrete panels on northbound I-5 between South Graham Street and Spokane Street. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes from 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 and 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23.

Follow the traffic and the progress
WSDOT has many ways you can stay on top of the traffic and the work on this project:

This $21 million project is funded by the 2003 gas tax dollars. This project puts 80 Washington union workers to work.
