VANCOUVER – Motorists traveling both directions on I-5, I-205 and SR 14 can expect delays the next two weeks as crews work to replace damaged pavement markings. Mobile right-lane closures and rolling slowdowns will occur between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Motorists should expect 10- to 15-minute delays.

Snow clearing efforts in December 2008 damaged striping all across southwest Washington. Similar to striping completed earlier this month, this work will replace striping in some of the highest-priority areas. Other, similarly damaged striping and reflective markers will be replaced later this year.

  • Crews will stripe the entire length of I-205 from the Glen Jackson Bridge (milepost 26.59) to the I-5 junction (milepost 37.16) on Thursday, Feb. 12.

  • On Tuesday, Feb. 17, striping work will take place on I-5 from the Interstate Bridge (milepost 0) to the Gee Creek Rest Area (milepost 13).

  • On Wednesday, Feb. 18, crews will stripe SR 14 from I-5 (milepost 0) to the bridge at Lawton Creek (milepost 20).

  • Crews return to I-5 on Thursday, Feb. 19 to stripe the interstate at its junction with I-205 (mileposts 7 to 8). This will cause rolling slowdowns on northbound I-5 and I-205. Additionally, drivers may experience slowdowns at the I-5 on-ramp from NE 134th Street.

This work is highly weather sensitive and requires mild temperatures and dry pavement. Striping may be rescheduled if conditions warrant.

WSDOT would like to remind motorists to observe warning devices and not cross new pavements or freshly painted striping. According to the Revised Code of Washington, “no person shall ride or drive any animal, bicycle, or vehicle, across any newly made pavement or freshly applied markings on any highway when a sign, cone marker, or other warning device is in place warning persons not to drive across such pavement or marking.” (RCW 46.90.010. 94-01-082, § 308-330-412). The fine for driving in such zoned-off area is $86.
