SEDRO-WOOLLEY – WSDOT crews will straighten SR 9 and widen the lanes and shoulders to improve safety between Martin Road and Thunder Creek north of Sedro-Woolley next summer. Marshbank Construction of Lake Stevens was awarded the contract on Monday, Dec. 15, for its bid of $1.68 million.
Details are still being finalized, but Marshbank could begin construction on the one-mile stretch of highway as soon as spring 2009. Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2009.
Drivers can expect single-lane closures, typically during the day. Some night work is allowed. Flaggers will direct traffic through the area. Delays should be minimal for the approximately 3,100 drivers who use this stretch of road daily.
Between 2003 and 2007, 14 collisions occurred on this section of SR 9. Nine of the collisions happened when a driver drove off the roadway and hit a fixed object. In all, seven people were injured. A straighter, wider roadway will help improve safety.
