BELLEVUE – A crane parked temporarily on a southbound I-405 exit in downtown Bellevue will resume placing bridge girders Wednesday night.
Until then, the crane is blocking one of the two southbound I-405 exit lanes to NE Eighth Street. The lane will remain closed to traffic until the crane finishes setting the next girder for a new NE 10th Street bridge on Wednesday night.
“Crews planned to set two girders last night but were only able to complete one,” WSDOT Construction Engineering Manager Brian Nielsen said. “Once the second girder is set and connected to the first, they will support one another. Since only one girder was placed last night, the crane was left in place to provide support until the second girder can be set tonight.”
Drivers should expect short delays tonight as crews reduce traffic to one southbound I-405 lane to accomplish the work. The work will continue with similar closures on weeknights through Nov. 26.
The NE 10th Street Bridge Project is a partnership with the city of Bellevue. The bridge will provide a direct connection between downtown Bellevue and the city’s growing hospital district and relieve congestion on NE Eighth Street.
