BOTHELL – Crews worked around the clock all weekend to get newly-built eastbound SR 522 lanes ready for Monday morning commuters. At 4 a.m., Monday, Sept. 29, crews wrapped up the final striping and opened eastbound SR 522 in Bothell. Drivers are now traveling on new, straighter lanes.

“This was a team effort,” said Project Engineer Janice Fahning. “The crews worked hard, drivers kept their cool and the Bothell community was patient during the closure. We appreciate everyone’s support.”

Crews closed eastbound SR 522 in Bothell this weekend to connect the eastbound lanes to a newly built and lower roadway with improved visibility. Now that the eastbound SR 522 traffic is moving on the new lanes, crews will continue their roadway work. If they get enough dry weather to excavate and pave, crews plan to close westbound SR 522 next month and shift traffic onto new lanes.

“We hope to open the new westbound lanes in October, so stay tuned,” said Fahning. “During that work, we’ll need to close the ramps from I-405 to westbound SR 522 and drivers may experience delays on both those roads.”

WSDOT is working with the University of Washington and Cascadia Community College to build a new entrance to the south side of the Bothell campus. Crews will also build a new roadway for SR 522 (Bothell Way NE) from the I-405 interchange to Kaysner Way in Bothell. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR522/UW/.
