HOQUIAM – Routine maintenance to preserve the US 101 Riverside Bridge requires bridge openings and single-lane closures next week.

Each year, WSDOT crews apply oil to the cables that raise the bridge into the open position. The oil preserves the cables and extends the life of the span.

Monday, crews will open the Riverside Bridge at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Operators will lift the span slowly, allowing workers to lubricate the cables while it rises. For the second opening, the operation moves to the opposite end of the bridge.

Each bridge opening lasts 20 minutes. Drivers should plan ahead and expect delays.

Lubricating the remaining cables requires single-lane closures Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
