ORTING – A nine-mile paving project on SR 162 wraps up today – on schedule, under budget, and just in time for Labor Day weekend.
Completion of this $2.76 million preservation project means a smoother, safer road surface for the 7,000 vehicles that travel each day on SR 162 between Orville Road in Orting and the highway’s intersection with SR 165.
The conclusion of this project also means an end to the delays drivers endured this summer due to the alternating, one-way traffic control required to pave the highway.
“We know it was frustrating at times for drivers,” said WSDOT field engineer Randy Liotti, “but we appreciate their patience and hope they enjoy the improved roadway.”
This project – paid for by existing WSDOT funds – also added safety improvements that include updated signage, guardrail and striping.
The contractor on this project is Tucci & Sons of Tacoma. For more detail about this project, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR162/OrvilleToSR165Paving/.
