DUPONT – Crews working on a project that installs traffic cameras and electronic signs for Amber alerts will close I-5 lanes and ramps in south Pierce County overnight Monday and Tuesday to restripe a stretch of freeway.
The revised striping shifts both directions of traffic away from the median to create space for sign-bridge construction. The sign bridge will support an electronic sign for Amber alerts and traffic-related messages.
Once construction of the sign bridge is completed in August, crews will return I-5 lanes to their original configuration.
Work Monday night is in the southbound lanes:
• Right lane and on-ramp at Steilacoom/Dupont closed 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• A second lane closes at 10 p.m.
• Rolling slowdown about 1 a.m. to allow crews to complete striping.
• All lanes open by 6 a.m.
Work Tuesday night is in the northbound lanes:
• Right lane, Mounts Road weigh station, on-ramp from Center Street, and Steilacoom/Dupont off-ramp closed 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Second lane closes at 10 p.m.
• Rolling slowdown about 1 a.m. to allow crews to complete striping.
