HOQUIAM – Single-lane temporary bridges will be used during construction of two new West Fork Hoquiam Bridges on US 101.
Starting Thursday, June 19, motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic directed by temporary traffic signals as they cross the two bridges, which are about a mile apart.
The bridges are located near milepost 99, about seven miles north of Hoquiam.
Two 15-feet-wide detour bridges are in place to carry traffic over the river during construction.
The narrow width of the temporary bridges requires a 12-foot width restriction on vehicles using this segment of US 101. Vehicles carrying loads wider than 12 feet, but less than 15 feet, can arrange to cross the temporary bridges by calling the WSDOT project office at 360-533-9352 at least 48 hours in advance.
The lane and width restrictions remain in effect until April 2009, when the $5.3 million bridge replacement project is scheduled for completion.
Two new single-span concrete bridges replace the existing timber bridges. The timber bridges are severely weathered and suffer rot damage.
