Crews will close I-5 in south Everett Sunday morning
Northbound lanes close, southbound lanes remain open
EVERETT – WSDOT crews and contractors will close all northbound lanes of I-5 in south Everett from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday, May 18 as part of the new Sound Transit Freeway Station. All southbound lanes will remain open.
- Sunday, May 18 – Crews will close all lanes of northbound I-5 at 128th St SW to remove signs from over the freeway and install new signs for the Park and Ride project.
To get around the construction zone, drivers will:
- Follow a signed detour by exiting onto eastbound 128th St. SW.
- Go north on the Bothell Everett Highway (SR 527) until they reach the SR 527/I-5 interchange.
- Then access the on-ramp to northbound I-5.
The closure is part of a larger project that includes widening 112th Street over I-5 to five lanes and adding wider sidewalks and approaches to the new bridge.
The I-5 South Everett Freeway Station Project is primarily funded by Sound Transit. WSDOT and Sound Transit have teamed up with the city of Everett to remove and replace the 112th Street SE bridges over I-5 with new, wider bridges as part of this project. When the project is complete, buses, carpools and vanpools will be able to go directly from the I-5 HOV lanes to a new 400-stall park-and-ride lot in the I-5 median at 112th Street SE. A new access road from 112th Street SE will allow single-occupant vehicles to reach the park-and-ride. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/i5/SouthEverett.
