CHEHALIS – Emergency repair work on US 12, just west of White Pass Ski Resort at milepost 148.8, will begin Monday, June 2 announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

Crews will replace a severely damaged culvert along the highway, which was found to have separated at the joints and may have formed voids under the roadway. This emergency contract was awarded to Tapani Underground, of Battle Ground and the estimated project cost is approximately $300,000.

During construction, motorists should expect delays and continuous single lane traffic, alternating directions on US 12, west of White Pass Ski Resort until crews complete repair work. Since this is an emergency contract, crews will be working around the clock to complete construction within 30 working days. The project is scheduled for completion summer 2008.

Advanced warning signs will be placed ahead of the construction area, and motorists are asked to observe and adhere to the posted speed limits when driving through the work zone. Motorists are also reminded that all traffic fines are doubled within a construction work zone when workers are present (RCW 46.61.527).
