DECEPTION PASS – Drivers on State Route 20 east of Deception Pass will travel over a new bridge next week. Crews spent the winter building a new bridge over Meadow Creek and will open it to drivers Sunday, June 1.

Crews will close a lane on SR 20, two miles east of the Deception Pass bridges, to complete paving and open the new bridge to traffic. Drivers should be prepared for delays of at least 15 minutes, possibly more.

One lane will be closed from 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, to noon Sunday, June 1, in the vicinity of Meadow Creek. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

Drivers are likely to see the heaviest delays early Saturday evening and late Sunday morning as weekend travelers head home. Drivers who travel through the construction zone between 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday should see less of a delay.

WSDOT reminds drivers who have to drive through the work zone to use caution and prepare for stop-and-go traffic.

The new Meadow Creek bridge replaces an existing culvert and will improve fish passage and allow for a wider, safer roadway.

This work is part of a $34.3 million project that will widen lanes and shoulders and improve intersections to reduce collisions and improve traffic flow between Meadow Creek and the Miller/Gibralter Road intersection.
