MONROE – Drivers should plan ahead and expect delays this week on US 2. Crews will begin work on a $3.9 million project to install rumble strips and high-visibility striping on US 2 between Monroe and Stevens Pass to help reduce serious collisions on the highway.
“It’s a great safety project for US 2 and we’re excited to get started this spring,” said WSDOT Project Engineer, Dave Lindberg.
- Wednesday, May 28 – Crews will apply centerline striping with a 15 mph striping truck on US 2 between Gold Bar and Stevens Pass for three hours between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Thursday, May 29 – Beginning Thursday, crews will close the eastbound and westbound shoulders of US 2 between Monroe and Tunnel creek from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily for sign work.
Crews will grind in over 40 miles of centerline and shoulder rumble strips on US 2 from just east of Monroe to just west of the Stevens Pass summit to help reduce crossover and run-off-the-road collisions. Crews will also install high-visibility striping to make the centerline more visible to drivers at night and in bad weather.
“Much of the striping will be recessed in the pavement so it won’t be damaged by snow-clearing equipment during the winter,” said Lindberg.
The rumble strip project will wrap up by fall 2008. For more information, visit the project Web site: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/US2/CorridorRumbleStrips.
A busy summer on US 2
Drivers can expect to see our crews out all along the highway this summer. Crews will be tackling several projects to improve driver safety and preserve the roadway.
“This project is one of six safety improvement projects on US 2 this summer,” said Lindberg.
