REDMOND - As Redmond drivers ease back into the work week after the long Memorial Day weekend, they should be prepared to add a little extra time to their SR 202 commute.

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, paving crews will shift traffic and reduce SR 202 to a single lane in each direction between 187th Avenue NE and Sahalee Way. Crews are entering the home stretch of the SR 202 - SR 520 to Sahalee Way project and will begin placing the final layer of asphalt on the roadway surface between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays. If weather cooperates, crews expect to finish paving work by June 13.

Drivers can check traffic cameras for road conditions at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/seattle/elksammpkwy.htm#cam

This work is associated with a two phase, $82.7 million dollar project that widens SR 202 from SR 520 in Redmond to Sahalee Way in rural King County.  More than 27,000 cars and trucks drive on this stretch of SR 202 every weekday. When the project is complete in July 2008, drivers will have an additional lane in both directions, smoother flow at intersections and improved safety with the installation of new or upgraded signals and left-turn lanes. Detailed project information and updates are available on our project Web page: www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/SR202/SR520_Sahalee/.
