OLYMPIA – A three-month closure of the northbound I-5 Scatter Creek rest area to passenger vehicles begins Wednesday, May 28.

Cars will not be able to access the site between May 28 and Aug. 27. Trucks and buses will still be able to use the existing truck-parking area in front of the facility. Closing the passenger vehicle parking section allows for sewer replacement and repaving.

The closure is part of a $6 million improvement project to upgrade the I-5 Scatter Creek and Maytown rest areas and connect them to the Thurston County sewer system.

WSDOT encourages drivers to follow the blue motorist information signs along the highway that advertise alternative available services.

Contractor Stan Palmer Construction, Inc. re-worked their schedule so the facility could open earlier than the planned October completion date.
