MONTESANO – Various work activities as part of a US 12 safety project require the closure of Clemons Road next week.
Crews will close the road Monday through Thursday, May 12-15, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic will detour to Devonshire Road.
In addition, work requires right lane and shoulder closures of US 12 (milepost 7.0 to 8.0) in both directions during work hours.
This $891,000 project widens the roadway to improve safety along a one-mile stretch of the US 12 corridor and the Clemons Road intersection.
Currently, motorists entering US 12 from Clemons Road have a limited sight distance. This project adds a gore to shift the eastbound right-turn lane away from US 12 to improve sight distance.
Crews will also widen and extend the westbound median-acceleration lane to provide drivers more time to get up to speed to merge. New illumination, roadside safety and drainage improvements are also part of the project.
The contractor, Nova Contracting, Inc. of Olympia, began construction in April. Completion is scheduled for June.
