OLYMPIA – I-5 traffic slows to a crawl late Tuesday night while crews remove a power line in preparation for a freeway widening project that starts next week.
Delays could be as long as 20 minutes in both directions in the Maytown area, near milepost 95.
State troopers will conduct a rolling slowdown to give utility workers time to cut the power line and remove it from the freeway. The slowdown is planned for 10 p.m., but could occur later Tuesday or early Wednesday morning.
Crews are preparing to add a lane northbound and southbound between Grand Mound and Maytown. This is an eight-mile stretch that is currently two lanes in each direction.
