CAMAS – An opportunity for the public to learn more about the updated design of the SR 14 Camas-Washougal Widening & Interchange Project will take place April 22, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The public is invited to join the project team at an Open House from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Camas Police Station Community Room, located at 2100 NE 3rd Avenue in Camas.

At the open house, the public will be able to view displays and talk to WSDOT staff about the project’s updated design, interchange location, traffic impacts and other improvements. Feedback about the project, associated concerns from the public are also welcome. There will be no formal presentations, so the public is encouraged to stop by anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The purpose of this project is to increase safety and relieve congestion on SR 14 through the busy Camas/Washougal corridor, and to accommodate future growth demands. The public will have an opportunity to review displays outlining the proposed widening of SR 14 between the NW 6th Avenue interchange in Camas and 6th Street in Washougal.

Project staff will also be on hand to explain the proposed widening and retrofit of the existing West Camas Slough Bridge, construction of a new bridge on the East end of Lady Island, and the construction of a new half interchange at Union Street. A 3D design simulation will also be shown to demonstrate how the new interchange and roundabouts will function.

The 2005 Transportation Partnership Funding Package provided $40 million in gas tax money for completion of this project. The 2007 Legislature added $17 million due to cost escalation and inflation. The project is scheduled to begin in 2010 and is expected to be complete by 2012.
