ELMA – The Elma rest area on State Route 8 will be closed Wednesday, April 16 for building maintenance. Hours of the closure are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Two other WSDOT rest areas, both on I-5 in Thurston County, are undergoing improvements but remain open. This $6 million project upgrades the I-5 Scatter Creek and Maytown rest areas and connects them to the Thurston County sewer system.

Scatter Creek facilities close June through October, and passenger vehicles will be unable to access the site. Trucks and buses will use the existing truck-parking area.

The Maytown rest area buildings will be closed for upgrades Sept. 16 through Dec. 4. Portable toilet facilities will be on site during the building's closure. The site will remain open to all vehicular traffic except for a two-day closure expected in early October.

When the project wraps up in 2009, the rest areas will also have additional recreation-vehicle dump facilities and more truck parking.
