Date:  Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Contact: Bill Lesh - GSA Public Affairs Manager - 503-326-2306

BLAINE – The northbound I-5 Nexus lane at the Peace Arch border crossing will close intermittently from midnight to noon each day, Monday through Friday for the next three weeks starting Wednesday, April 9.

Travelers in the Nexus lane will be redirected into the general purpose lane at the D Street interchange for a distance of about 500 feet, after which they can reenter the Nexus lane. Should the general purpose lane back up from the Canadian border station, the traffic controls will be removed.

Crews are moving and installing utilities as part of the General Service Administrations project to rebuild the customs facility.

Travelers need to be aware of this traffic change and drive accordingly. There will be signs and flaggers to assist drivers through the construction area.

Lane closure information will be displayed on signs and broadcast on radios near the border to give drivers the latest information. Drivers are encouraged to check traffic cameras before leaving – www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/border/.
