HOQUIAM – In the early morning hours Tuesday, Feb. 19, WSDOT crews will close the US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge, marking the beginning of a 10-week rehabilitation project.

Drivers will detour across the nearby Riverside Bridge, which is being reconfigured to accommodate one lane of traffic in each direction during the 10-week period.

WSDOT staff working on the project will monitor public feedback regarding the detour route and make adjustments if necessary. Motorists should allow extra travel time when driving through the area.

During the bridge closure, crews will upgrade major electrical and mechanical parts that operate the bridge’s drawspan.

About 15,000 vehicles a day cross the Simpson Avenue Bridge.

More information about the bridge closure and detour route can be found at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/US101/SimpsonBridgeRehab/.
