JEFFERSON COUNTY – Motorists traveling across the Hood Canal Bridge early next week may notice Washington State Department of Transportation activity along the bridge’s northwest shoulder.
From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 18-20, an access route will be installed to allow work crews to reach the bridge’s piers. Drivers can expect to see cones and flags along the shoulder but will not experience delays.
The access work is being done in conjunction with the ongoing Hood Canal Bridge retrofit and replacement project which will improve the existing structure, making it safer and more reliable. The bridge will close for six weeks during May-June 2009 to allow WSDOT and contractors from Kiewit-General to remove and replace its eastern half. For more information, visit http://www.hoodcanalbridge.com/.
Drivers can call 5-1-1 or visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ for road and traffic updates and www.wsdot.wa.gov/regions/olympic/construction to learn more about weekly construction and maintenance activities.
