JEFFERSON COUNTY – Motorists traveling across the Hood Canal Bridge later this week may notice WSDOT activity along the bridge’s northwest shoulder.

From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 28-29, access route installation will continue, allowing work crews to reach the bridge’s piers. Drivers can expect to see cones and flags along the shoulder but will not experience delays. The west-side vehicle pullout adjacent to the west bridge approach will remain closed to public access. Pedestrian traffic is prohibited on the bridge, and bicyclists are reminded to use extreme caution.

The access work is being done in conjunction with the ongoing Hood Canal Bridge retrofit and replacement project which will improve the existing structure, making it safer and more reliable. The bridge will close for six weeks during May-June 2009 to allow WSDOT and contractors from Kiewit-General to remove and replace its eastern half.
