2011/2013 Safe Routes to School Project List

The purpose of the Safe Routes to School Program is to aid public agencies in funding cost-effective projects within two miles of primary and middle schools (K-8) that provide children a safe, healthy alternative to riding the bus or being driven to school. The program has two main goals, to increase the safety of the children walking and biking to school and where it is already safe to increase the numbers of children walking and biking to school. Applicants were asked to describe how their project would increase the number of students walking and biking to school safely by making improvements in areas of health and safety education, enforcement, and engineering. The Department of Transportation received 124 Safe Routes to Schools applications from 97 agencies and organizations totaling requests for approximately $43 million. By June 2011, following the final determination of funding by the legislature award letters will be sent to the project contacts. The following is the prioritized list of projects that have been sent to the state legislature for their consideration.
