In June of 2006, Theresa got her foot in the door here at WSDOT by joining the Temp Pool. Her first temporary job was working in the Human Resources Office as an Office Assistant. Theresa had several other opportunities to demonstrate her skills in the Commercial Vehicle Services Office issuing permits and in the Design Office as a Secretary.
Theresa joined the WSDOT family permanently in 2007. This enabled Theresa to take advantage of her passion and education in the technology field as an Information Technology Specialist working for the Strategic Analysis and Estimating Office. There she works with city and county designers statewide as the administrator for WSDOT’s Plans Specifications and Estimates Word Program. Theresa has worked on projects for the Design Visual Engineering Resource Group. She can even be seen in a few of the videos they produced.
“There are too many reasons to list why I love working for WDSOT. I am honored to be a part of the highway system knowing the public needs and uses it every day. I am blessed to work for a great supervisor and co-workers that allow me to contribute as much as I can to the Department. I am amazed at the opportunities we have to grow and learn.”
In her spare time, Theresa enjoys spending time with her 10 year old daughter, snowboarding, wakeboarding, playing slow-pitch softball, coaching fast pitch softball, photography, and technology. Theresa believes you get what you give so she has volunteered with several Thurston County fast pitch organizations, her daughters school functions, her homeowners association and block watch committee.
She admits she still has a lot to learn including how to juggle meal planning so her daughter doesn’t eat pizza every night, housework, parenting, and a full-time job but she loves every minute of it and enjoys the journey because “today is all you ever have” and she says “I try to live in the moment and look at the bright side.”
“Working for the Department has provided me with so much happiness knowing I am part of something so important to the public. I am so fortunate to work in an environment where my co-workers and supervisors support me and allow me to contribute as much as I can. I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for everyone else.”
As an added note, Theresa was nominated this year for the Secretary of State's Extra Mile Award by two of her co-workers. We are proud to say she won the award and it is well deserved. Way to go Theresa!
