Sue Geisler

It’s not often you meet a state employee who’s as passionate about their job as Featured Employee Sue Geisler. Going beyond the normal call of duty is a daily occurrence for Sue, and she prides herself on the quality of her work as well as the speed. As an Information Technology Specialist with the Washington State Ferries (WSF) Division of the Department of Transportation, Sue travels throughout the Puget Sound, assisting WSF employees on the boats and in the terminals with whatever computer problems they may have.

When I asked Sue what she likes best about her job, she explained; “I’m always busy, sometimes challenged, and I make people happy when I fix their computer. Also, I get to ride the ferries, got to different terminals, meet a lot of people and no one day is ever the same as the day before”.

It’s Sue’s eagerness to get the job done and pride in her work that won her recent accolades by her Division Manager. Days before one remote Canadian ticket office along WSF ferry routes was about to open, it was discovered that one of the PC’s was dead. Without a fully functioning PC, ticket sales on this island would not be possible. Rather than spending the day traveling to the Island or the money to ship the needed parts through customs, Sue was able to remotely access and fix the computer without leaving her Seattle office. The result? A fully-functioning office on opening day, and both time and money saved!

Her passion goes beyond normal working hours and is prevalent in every aspect of her life. Whether it’s biking, BBQing on her porch, traveling the globe or just hanging out with friends, Sue will never be mistaken as apathetic.
