Ray McNamara

“Ray is a dedicated employee with a strong focus on delivering highFeatured Employee Art McNamara quality projects for our customers.” That is how Project Engineer Bob Hilmes described his employee Transportation Engineer 2 Ray McNamara.

Ray began his career with the WSDOT on May 17, 1999 as a Transportation Technician 2. He is currently assigned as an inspector on one of the highest profile jobs in the history of Eastern Region - the North Spokane Corridor (NSC). He had the opportunity to work in the Right of Way phase, the Design phase of this project and as an inspector. He is currently working on many construction phases of the NSC interchanges, so Ray also ensures it is constructed according to the plans.

According to Ray, his favorite job is survey party chief. He says he likes that job because he has the opportunity to work for some excellent supervisors and managers who have allowed him the freedom to set the priorities and schedules to fit the needs of the contract. He also enjoys the opportunities it allows for him to “work outside of the box”.

When asked about his career goals, he responded he is more interested in leaving a legacy of respect and integrity than promoting up through the ranks. He attempts to be fair and honest with the contractors and tries to go the extra mile for his colleagues. Ultimately, he wants to be remembered as a very knowledgeable and valued employee. From what Mr. Hilmes has said, it appears Ray is well on his way to achieving his goals.

Ray is a family man. As stated by Ray: “I have been happily married for 21 years to my wife Lauri and have a wonderful daughter named Shelby". Ray plays softball and volleyball and loves to water ski and wakeboard.
