Kathy Oberman

Kathleen (Kathy) Oberman joined the WSDOT NWR HR team less than one month ago as a new Senior Human Resources Consultant.

Kathy started her career in Human Resources more than 15 years ago, by working at Providence Hospital as a temporary secretary. With her great skills and enthusiasm, she joined their HR team and has developed a strong passion for HR, especially in the area of benefits. Kat, as some call her, loves to help people resolve HR issues and as a consultant ensure that employees are knowledgeable and understand topics such as pay, benefits, etc. She sees herself as a caregiver to HR.

Big celebrations will happen for Kathy in January 2012 when she completes her BA with an emphasis in Human Resources.

Kathy got the nick name of Kat in high school when a friend thought it was a term of endearment and started calling her Kat. For a long time only that friend was allowed to address her as Kat.

She is a proud third generation Washingtonian. Her mother still lives in the house Kathy grew up in. Her brother also still lives in Washington. She is a proud mother of one son and two cats.

A few things one would not usually know about Kathy is that she has 22 nieces and nephews. She was also one of the few in the first billion dollar lottery drawing for Washington State.

There are many good cooks at Kathy’s house and she admits her favorite foods are Italian and Chinese. But do not offer her beets. In addition, as a treat, Kathy enjoys a very cold Diet Coke out of a can.

Some day when she retires you may find her in a quaint town called Sisters, Oregon. Before retirement she hopes for lots of travel around the world, especially to see the East Coast in the fall. Although you will not see her sky diving, there is the thought of owning a big purple Harley motorcycle.

Kathy said that even after less than one month she loves working with so many professional friendly people within the region. And feels very at home here.
