Tom Cash

Southwest Region’s Electronic Supervisor Tom Cash is no novice to balancing the demands of a multi-faceted job. As a 22-year veteran with WSDOT, Tom works closely with staff across the region, repairing lights, traffic signals, Variable Message Signs (VMS), and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) such as cameras and fiber-optic cables. But most importantly, Tom is responsible for keeping the lights on for the region.

Tom enjoys working and interacting with other departments in the region. “It’s refreshing,” explains Tom, who believes that everyone has a purpose and unique trade in the agency. “It’s the people that make this organization shine,” Tom added.

“I truly enjoy the people I work with and the variety of systems I’m able to work on at the DOT,” says Tom. “It allows me to constantly be challenged, and even after doing this job for 22 years, I’m still learning new tricks to the trade.”

When he is not at work fixing electrical systems, Tom enjoys the great outdoors. He likes to travel and often spends his weekends down at the coast during the winter, watching the storms roll in. Tom also enjoys camping at campgrounds in Seaview and Chehalis Washington, and Lincoln City in Oregon. He belongs to the Thousand Trails Club in Washington and enjoys spending quality time with his two children, nine grand children and five great-grand children.

Tom lives on over nine acres of farmland and spends much of his free time mowing fields and making repairs to the old farmhouse in north Clark County, where he and his beautiful wife Jackie reside.

Whether Tom is repairing fiber-optic cables or activating a new traffic signal along the highway, he always demonstrates the highest level of commitment and dedication to the task at hand. WSDOT is proud to have employees like Tom providing leadership in the organization and support for drivers throughout the state of Washington.
